2D Design

Introductory assignment (figure ground reversal and the picture plane using organic line) -- Cut Paper on Black/white ground sheet.

2D Design_Color Intro: Self portrait with color harmonies (and the use of black and white)


Value Assignment: Abstraction and Simplifications of value into shapes using cut paper.  12" x 16" each



Texture Project (recreating a famous work of art using real and implied textures through collage)


Color Foundations

Studies with Prismatic Colors (high key, low key, and combination)--based on designs created of your favorite desserts. Gouache on bristol (3x5" each)


Studies on Chromatic Gray (using high key, low key and a combination of both--designs based on architectural lines)--Gouache on bristol (3x5" each)

Study of limited palettes--Gouache on bristol 6x9"

Studies using various color harmonies (tetrad, split complement, complementary, analogous)-Gouache on Bristol--6x9" each



Four Seasons--students were asked to use non-cliche or traditional imagery to create four designs that would be painted with four different color schemes representing each season.  This particular student chose symbols from the Chinese zodiac. 

Digital Foundations:

Illustrator self portrait using the gradient mesh tool. 


Using Deco/Bauhaus designs for inspiration, recreate them using the shape, shape builder tools in Illustrator


Using shape, shape builder and gradient tools and Bauhaus to recreate designs in Illustrator. 

Go out and find interesting compositions in architecture with your digital camera, take photos and recreate them in illustrator using gradient tools while considering one of Itten's color contrasts as your primary inspiration for color selections. 

Conduct online research to find a student or open call poster contest.  Create a design using appropriate text within your design and submit your work to review panel. 


Drawing:

Exercise with organic line and varying line weights.


Exercise with organic lines, varying line weight and use of overlap to create a sense of depth.
